04/29/2011

Wow! In the last two weeks, I've been sick about 9 out of the past 14 days and the rain. Oh the rain. Ick. But I've still managed  to ride when I can. But sometimes it's difficult when I'm riding into the wind and I start coughing and then I have trouble catching my breath. I did manage 2 rides today, for a total of just over 7 miles. I can't believe how much I miss riding when I can't get out there for one reason or another. But I'm still getting over being sick so I think that's it for me today. I did get my camera in the mail today, so I will be taking pictures on my rides, maybe! LOL!

04/23/2011

I've been sick all week! What started out as sinus drainage, turned into the nastiest cough! Needless to say, I didn't ride much this week. Late this morning I took a quick ride to the library since I had movies & audiobooks to take back. I think that is such a pleasant ride! I love seeing the people walking their dogs, working in their yards or riding their bikes! So according to mapmyrides.com this what the month of April has been like for me:
28.87 miles! Woohoo! Go me!!
lol!

04/18/2011

Went for a ride today. It would've been 4.44 miles but I didn't make it. I woke this morning feeling all kinds of crappy. Sinus issues. UGH. And with the wind hitting me head on the last mile, I just couldn't do it. So I did get in a 3.44 mile ride, before Jim drove by and saw what a difficult time I was having. I couldn't catch my breath the tops of my thighs were killing me after yesterdays ride. I hate not finishing what I started, but it was just too much to soon.

04/17/2011

Friday & Saturday were not good bike riding weather days here in Indianapolis. I feel as though I'm trapped inside. I'm so over this crappy weather. I'm having a hard time not riding. I really enjoy what has become my daily jaunts. To the library, over to the MIL's, around the park. I'd mapped out a couple of other interesting rides that I want to go on. The longest is about 6 miles one way, so it will be awhile before I attempt that one. Those really nice, warm days spoiled me! So, if the temp rises to at least 60 (but please Lord, let it warm up more than that) I'm getting on my bike & going for a ride!

04/14/2011

I took 2 great, safe rides yesterday. I rode first to the library (standard for me since I love to read & watch movies for free) and the second was to Jim's moms house. The trip to the library is almost 3 miles round trip and the long way I take to Lottie's house is a little over 3 miles. The total for the day was just over 6 miles and that upped my overall total to 18.6 miles since I started on 04/08/2011! Not to bad for a girl who is more than 100 pounds overweight, I think! I have found that I love riding through neighborhoods. Looking at the great houses and having people actually wave to me! I didn't think anyone still did that in the city! I don't know if it is because I'm a 40 something riding a retro bike, taking my time (sorta) and looking around? I don't know. But I like it! I have mapped out a route I want to take, following a city made trail that is about 4 miles. My next goal is to buy a camera, so I can take pictures on my rides!

Weight Loss Tracker

I've added a weight loss tracker to my blog! Thanks to tickerfactory.com its free! I've used them quite a bit on goodreads.com, helping me to keep track of the books that I read in the challenges. I love them! And when I saw that they had one that was a road, with a bike (I don't know if it's a Huffy or not though) I just had to have it! I ♥ it! I have it set up to stay on top until 09/29/2012, my birthday next year. I'm hoping that I will be able to meet my weight loss goal by then! If I calculated correctly, it's 7 pounds a month that I need to lose. If I cut down on the processed sugars, eating out, and keep riding, I know I can finally get fit!

My First Ride...

Wow! My first ride was awesome! Ok, let me rephrase that. It was awesome once I was able to get ONTO the bike! It has 26" wheels and like I said in the past, I'm 5'3" ish. Not the easiest thing to do! Haha! But I rode to the library, which is close to a mile, if not a little over and rode back late this morning. Then this evening, my sweetie Jim came and picked me & my Huffy up and we went for a ride around the park. It was really nice, kids playing, riding their bikes (and trust me they were not sweating and huffing like we were), people walking their dogs. We stopped and set on a bench and watched squirrels play. Then it happened. I went to get onto my bike and fell my ass over! Lesson learned the hard, painful & embarrassing way: DO NOT RIDE YOUR BIKE WITH FLIP FLOPS ON!! Once I got over my embarrassment, it was funny. I felt a little like poor old Humpty Dumpty though. But I ended up with 3 miles ridden today! Not to bad to start out, huh?

First Ride

I was needed to help out at a friends daycare yesterday so I was unable to go on my first ride. That will be today!! We bought my bike late on Wednesday, so no ride that day. Jim tightened up all my nuts & bolts, adjusted the handle bars, add the lock holder attachment so I have some place that will hold the lock in place while I ride. And the sun just came out and I will be heading out in a few minutes. I'll update later!

About Me...

Let me start out by just getting this most embarrassing fact out there. I'm not over weight. I feel as though I'm past obese. I weigh in at about 260 pounds. It's gotten so embarrassing to just walk. It becomes difficult to breathe, my face doesn't just get red, it turns RED. I mean strangers will ask if I'm ok. RED. Oh, and I'm only 41. And 5'3".
So this spring I found out that my oldest is pregnant. With my first grandson. She's due August 12th, and she has moved to Florida. I know that if I were to buy a ticket to take the plane down (I live in Indiana), I would have to buy 2. So I started walking late last week. I would catch a ride to the library and walk the 3/4 mile home. Within just a few days I feel tighter. I'm not saying I've lost weight, I don't think I have. But my flab is just a smidge less (ick) flabby.
When I got home from my library walk, my knees hurt, my back hurt, hell, even my shins hurt. Not to mention the bottom of my feet from walking so hard. So today, I decided that I want to ride a bike to the library & back at least 3 times a week. That has to be better for the above mentioned aches & pains, right? Right.
Guess what? I didn't have a bike!  So off I went, to my local Walmart and looked all around for a bike to fit my library riding needs. Basket on the front, chec! Shelf rack on the back (in case I rent more books, movies, etc from the library & need more room!) check! Bottle holder for my much needed water bottle, check! So I found a very reasonable Huffy Cruiser. Want to see what it looks like? Here it is!
Well, kinda. It's this bike, only in a bronze or copper color with brown fenders. This is what I'm going to start riding to go from flab to fab! And I'm planning on documenting my journey here. Because you know, I'm a Huffy Rider! LOL!
